Are You Investing in the Right Place to Improve Your Team's Performance?

I client had invested time, money and resources in training his team and redesigning his work structures. But despite all that effort, the results were still not what he expected.

It is a story that is repeated in many organisations: it is assumed that in order to improve the performance of a team, the solution is to train them more, change the way they work or restructure them. However, a critical aspect is forgotten: what happens beyond the team.

The reality is that even if a team is perfectly skilled, if the interactions that take place around value creation are inefficient, results will not improve. A team can be incredibly talented and have the best tools at its disposal, but if the work is stuck waiting for approvals or dependencies from other departments, performance will suffer.

The true potential of a team is not unlocked by changing the way they work, but by changing the system in which they operate.

Reducing downtime, simplifying processes, and removing bureaucratic barriers are strategies that have a far more profound and lasting impact than any training. Investing in the system is often the key to enabling the team to work more smoothly and efficiently.

What is your experience and have you seen significant performance improvements by optimising processes?
